Things that are funny when you're drunk
"Doesn't breakfast start with a b?"
"Well, I suppose it could do, but I prefer a glass of orange juice and some cereal myself. I find the wings always get stuck in my teeth"
Etc
We are suffering from a big night out. Oh, so what's new there then....

It's A Mad World (again)
Look, I'm a huge Tears For Fears fan. I've mentioned this before. A large part of me is scared about the fact that Gary Jules' version of "Mad World" is being released on December 15th (a Christmas Number 1? Er....no!) even though it's been 2 years since it first appeared on the Donnie Darko soundtrack. AND there's half a rumour that Alex Parks will be releasing her version of "Mad World" too (it's on her debut album) very soon as well....
All very strange.
Everyone loves a happy ending? We'll see, eh????!
Life's all a big cycle, ain't it?

Studio Dilemmas
Been quiet the last few days cos I've been:
a) working (shock! horror! yes, REAL work too!)
b) been recovering from the above working (long story)
and
c) been trying to work out what to do with my studio setup.
I should explain...
I have, what many would describe as, a conventional studio setup. You know the thing, a mixing desk, a couple of rackfuls of compressors/EQs/reverbs and another rackful of synth/sound modules all tied together with a computer or two. Now, for a good few years I've been an advocate of NOT switching to the 'all in one box' way of working (running a sequencer with lots of VSTis installed etc) and even did an interview for the Sunday Telegraph a few years back on this very topic [it used to be online, but it seems to have disappeared recently] full of quotes along the lines of "well, hardware units don't crash on you!" and similar such nonsense.
Of course, in the years since then I've been sucked into the whole thing I was protesting against...
Anyway, so right now I'm at the point that I have a whole (big) room (upstairs from where I'm writing this) FULL of gear, yet, on the two Mac G4s I have access to on this desk here (which is in the living room) on which I can do 80% of what upstairs can do. And, the thing is now, that the other 20% might well be possible if I make the commitment to work it out (i.e. I finally got VSTis working in Protools tonight thanks to Ugly VST).
So, the key decision is whether to make the switch, and admit that I've finally got it now, or try and work out why I should stick with the Old Skool.
Eeek.

Not the best name
So, "bubble and squeak" (you know, frying up cold cooked vegetables, as you do) is so called because it's supposed to be the noise it makes whilst cooking.
Surely, "sizzle and spit" would have been a more accurate name, if a little less catchy.

Depressing Covers
CDUK this afternoon rather annoyingly thrust upon us two horrible, horrible cover versions of great songs by not-great-at-all boy bands. Westlife have butchered Barry Manilow's "Mandy" (not cool to like that song? Tough, it's a great love song!) and the really fucking annoying Blue have killed, stone dead, Stevie Wonder's "Signed, Sealed, Delivered"
Oh, must be nearly Christmas then....
(The ever gorgeous Cat Deeley still wasn't enough justification to keep watching after Blue were on)
UPDATE: Oh, it got worse. I only saw a bit of the Blue video on CDUK and didn't realise until we just caught it again on Q (of all channels) that it's featuring Stevie Wonder. Oh God No, Stevie - what are you doing?
