"Look Around You" is back....
Oh, only just spotted it in time, but the excellent comedy "Look Around You" is back on BBC2. It's odd getting used to having more well-known people in it though. OK, so Josie D'Arby isn't very famous as such but she's a face many people will recognise. I rather liked the fact that Series 1 it was full of people that could well have been from the OU archives if you didn't know any better....
And as for having Harry Enfield in it, well that is an odd thing.
Still a top idea done very well though.

Sorry, I'm being slack.....
Ooops, I haven't posted for ages. Naughty me. Lots going on here, just haven't found the time to put fingers to keyboard. Until I do, just a few little things that I wanted to document (for myself, if for no one else!)
A new Ben Folds album, "Songs For Silverman". At last. Hurrah!!!!
My girlfriend likes chocolate. And cake. Putting the two together seems to make her to forget to actually, well, breath whilst eating. The evidence is here for all to see. (Warning: girl enjoying a cake. A lot.) [Thanks to Mr Coates]
There's a new film coming out called "Robots" and it looks like it might be excellent. Can't wait to see it.
I'm currently working hard in the studio on my own stuff. That's the real reason I haven't been around here much over the last couple of weeks. I'm thinking of starting up a studio diary/blog type thing for it, some might find the technical side of it interesting. Thing is I'd have to start it very soon while I can still remember stuff from work I did a week or so ago. I'll try a bit of it and see what I come up with.

More about singles....
So, Elvis gets the 1000th number 1 but only has to sell in the region of 22,000 copies to get there. As a reference point, I happen to know (cos I was involved in it!) that when Cornershops "Brimful Of Asha" went to number one (in 1998) it sold over 200,000 copies in the first week alone (and then sold about the same amount again in the following 2 weeks)
I'm confused as to why some people don't understand that it works this way these days though....Oh come on, it's been on the horizon for a couple of years now, at least...
Singles, as they used to exist, have had their day. This is not a bad thing, in my personal opinion anyway.
I would recommend tuning into MTV2 (if you have Sky, natch) on a Saturday night, from about 10pm onwards. We did that very thing last night - and in the space of a couple of hours we'd heard 4 or 5 great new records, some by bands we'd never heard of before and some by bands we'd go "oooh, it's them!" at (i.e. LCD Soundsystem, Lazyboy, Roots Manuva)
I doubt any of them will be 'hit singles' in the traditional sense, but so what?
There's an huge amount of great new music out there - but the singles chart is not the way to be exposed to it anymore (if it actually ever was...discuss!!)....you have to work a little harder these days to find excellent new music, but it's so out there asking for your love and attention if you put the time in to go and find it....

Two posts...One good, the other really not....
LONDON, ENGLAND - January 5, 2005:
Ever fancied playing videogames on the silver screen? Now's your chance - and you can make a difference to the victims of the tsunami disaster by donating money at the same time as winning consoles and copies of multi-million selling games.
Vue Cinema West End in Leicester Square have kindly granted the use of one of the country's biggest cinema screens for a gaming tournament on Saturday and Sunday 8th/9th January, from 9am to 5pm.
It's the ultimate big screen gaming experience with epic surround sound. Players will be flexing their thumbs to win consoles plus copies of chart toppers.
We have all been touched by the pictures of those who have survived the tsunami, only to find themselves starving, homeless and at the mercy of disease. By paying just £3 to enter this tournament, you will be helping vital aid get to where it is needed most.
If you don't fancy yourself as a gaming expert, don't worry! Pay £1.50 to watch the action on the big screen. Volunteers will also be running around Leicester Square with buckets for donations so there's no excuse for giving nothing!
All money raised will be going straight to the fund set up by the Disaster Emergency Committee. Pop down at the weekend and pit yourself against the rest of the UK's finest gamers, and make a difference to those whose lives have been devastated by the tsunami.
